Covid Update: 101 new cases with 54 variants

Durham Health yesterday posted 101 new Covid-19 cases for March 18, taking the region’s tally to 12,741 since the count began on February 29.

It also added 54 new variants cases.

There was no new covid death keeping this month’s toll to six. There were 11 covid deaths in February, 45 in January, 53 in December and 5 in November. Durham’s overall death toll stands at 303 with 217 of them occurring in LTCs.

There were:

  • 20 new cases in Pickering
  • 36 in Ajax
  • 16 in Whitby
  • 12 in Oshawa
  • 12 in Clarington
  • 2 in Uxbridge
  • 1 in Scugog
  • 2 in Brock

Recoveries stand at 12,027 (12,003), up by 24. There are 411 active covid cases.

Twenty-eight cases are hospitalized with 12 in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 383 people in home isolation.

Durham Health reported the highest number of cases so far at 3,694 in Ajax.

Death Toll: Total – 303              LTC – 217

Of the 99 reported deaths in Pickering, 86 were in LTC
Of the 51 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTC
Forty-six deaths were reported in Whitby, 30 in LTC
Of the 51 reported deaths in Oshawa, 34 were in LTC
Sixteen deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTC]
24 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTC
Sixteen deaths have been reported in Scugog, 14 in LTC
No deaths have been reported in Brock
