Covid Update: 28 variants in 40 new cases

Durham Health yesterday posted 40 new Covid-19 cases for March 8, taking the region’s tally to 12,230 since the count began on February 29.

Of these, there were 28 new variant cases.

One new non-LTC (long term care) covid death was added in Oshawa for March 5 taking this month’s toll to four. There were 11 covid deaths in February, 45 deaths in January, 53 in December and 5 in November. Durham’s overall death toll stands at 301 with 217 of them occurring in LTCs.

There were:

  • 3 new cases in Pickering
  • 16 in Ajax
  • 3 in Whitby
  • 9 in Oshawa
  • 9 in Clarington
  • 1 in Scugog

Recoveries stand at 11,615 (11,567), up by 48. There are 314 active covid cases.

Twenty-one cases are hospitalized with nine in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 293 people in home isolation.

Durham Health reported the highest number of cases so far at 3,528 in Ajax.

Death Toll: Total – 301              LTC – 217

Of the 99 reported deaths in Pickering, 86 were in LTC
Of the 51 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTC
Forty-five deaths were reported in Whitby, 30 in LTC
Of the 51 reported deaths in Oshawa, 34 were in LTC
Fifteen deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTC]
24 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTC
Sixteen deaths have been reported in Scugog, 14 in LTC
No deaths have been reported in Brock
