Covid Update: 17 variants in 70 new cases

Durham Health yesterday posted a recent high of 70 new Covid-19 cases for March 7, taking the region’s tally to 12,189 since the count began on February 29.

Of these, there were 17 new variant cases.

No new covid death was added. March death toll remains at 3 and February’s at 11. There were 45 deaths in January, 53 in December and 5 in November. Durham’s overall death toll stands at 300 with 217 of them occurring in LTCs.

There were:

  • 17 new cases in Pickering
  • 18 in Ajax
  • 19 in Whitby
  • 13 in Oshawa
  • 2 in Clarington
  • 2 in Scugog
  • 1 in Brock

Recoveries stand at 11,567 (11,545), up by 22. There are 322 active covid cases.

Twenty-one cases are hospitalized with eight in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 301 people in home isolation.

Durham Health reported the highest number of cases so far at 3,512 in Ajax.

Death Toll: Total – 300              LTC – 217

Of the 99 reported deaths in Pickering, 86 were in LTC
Of the 51 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTC
Forty-five deaths were reported in Whitby, 30 in LTC
Of the 50 reported deaths in Oshawa, 34 were in LTC
Fifteen deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTC]
24 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTC
Sixteen deaths have been reported in Scugog, 14 in LTC
No deaths have been reported in Brock
