Covid Update: New Durham cases dip to 199

Durham Health yesterday posted 199 new Covid-19 cases for May 8, taking the region’s tally to 22,345 since the count began on February 29 2020.

Durham’s overall death toll stands at 344, with 218 of them occurring in LTCs.

Total variants cases stood at 8,643. Recoveries stand at 19,898. There are 2,103 active covid cases.

80 cases are hospitalized with 31 in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 2,023 people in home isolation.

Durham Health reported the highest number of cases so far in Ajax.

There were:

  • 33 cases in Pickering
  • 64 in Ajax
  • 33 in Whitby
  • 58 in Oshawa
  • 9 in Clarington
  • 1 in Uxbridge
  • 1 in Scugog
  • none in Brock

Covid Deaths: 344

Of the 109 reported deaths in Pickering, 87 were in LTC
Of the 58 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTC
Of the 54 reported deaths in Whitby, 30 in LTC
Of the 58 reported deaths in Oshawa, 34 were in LTC
22 deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTC]
24 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTC
17 deaths have been reported in Scugog, 14 in LTC
2 deaths have been reported in Brock
