Durham receives award for financial reporting

The Region of Durham has been recognized by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for its 2019 Annual Financial Report. The Canadian Award for Financial Reporting (CAnFR) recognizes excellence in governmental accounting and financial reporting and represents a significant accomplishment by a local government and its management.
The Canadian Award for Financial Reporting program was established to encourage municipal governments throughout Canada to publish high-quality financial reports and to provide peer recognition and technical guidance for officials preparing these reports.

The annual financial report is judged by impartial Canadian Review Committee members to meet the high standards of the program, including demonstrating a constructive spirit of full disclosure designed to clearly communicate the municipality’s financial story and to motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.

“We are so proud to accept this award and to serve the residents of Durham Region by providing clear and transparent financial reporting each year. This award is a reflection of Regional Council’s commitment to long-term financial planning, strategic budgetary direction, and service excellence.” says Nancy Taylor, the Commissioner of Finance for Durham region.
