Covid Update: Durham Health adds four new deaths

Durham Health yesterday posted 178 new Covid-19 cases for February 1, taking the region’s tally to 50,430 since the count began on February 29, 2020.

At the end of December last year, the total case count had stood at 35,663. There were 14,578 new cases posted in January.

Durham’s overall death toll stands at 424, with 231 of them occurring in LTCs (long term care facilities). One new death each was reported in Ajax, Whitby and Oshawa, and one LTC death in Clarington.

Recoveries stand at 48,263. However, there are 1,558 active covid cases. Figures for hospitalizations and Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and people in home isolation, were not available.

Durham Health reported the highest overall number of covid cases so far in Ajax.

Covid Deaths: 424

Of the 125 reported deaths in Pickering, 89 were in LTC
Of the 75 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTC
Of the 68 reported deaths in Whitby, 31 in LTC
Of the 83 reported deaths in Oshawa, 43 were in LTC
24 deaths were reported in Clarington, one in LTC
27 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTC
18 deaths have been reported in Scugog, 14 in LTC
4 deaths have been reported in Brock
