Up to 20 cm of snow expected by Friday morning

Environment Canada has issued a weather advisory in effect for Durham advising of multi-day snowfall event through to Friday morning.

It expects total snowfall accumulations of 10 to 20 cm by Friday, as well as risk of freezing rain during the transition from rain to snow.

Motorists were advised to be careful as visibility may be reduced due to heavy snow.

“Freezing rain or rain showers early Wednesday morning will transition to all snow Wednesday afternoon or evening. Areas farther west will see a quicker changeover. Snow is expected to continue Wednesday night and Thursday before easing by Friday morning,” said Environment Canada.

It said motorists should expect hazardous winter driving conditions and adjust travel plans accordingly. “Poor weather conditions may contribute to transportation delays. If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.”
