Long weekend impact? New covid cases back up past 70

Durham Health yesterday posted 72 new Covid-19 cases for May 29, taking the region’s tally to 24,559 since the count began on February 29, 2020.

Durham’s overall death toll stands at 365, with 218 of them occurring in LTCs.

Recoveries stand at 23,498. However, there are 696 active covid cases. Forty-one cases are hospitalized with 19 in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 655 people in home isolation.

Durham Health reported the highest number of covid cases so far in Ajax.

There were:

  • 5 cases in Pickering
  • 22 in Ajax
  • 17 in Whitby
  • 20 in Oshawa
  • 8 in Clarington
  • none in Uxbridge
  • none in Scugog
  • none in Brock

Covid Deaths: 362

Of the 117 reported deaths in Pickering, 87 were in LTC
Of the 64 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTC
Of the 57 reported deaths in Whitby, 30 in LTC
Of the 60 reported deaths in Oshawa, 34 were in LTC
22 deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTC]
26 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTC
17 deaths have been reported in Scugog, 14 in LTC
2 deaths have been reported in Brock
