Crime Briefs: Oshawa man grazed by a bullet + BB-gun theft

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) yesterday said a man was treated at a hospital after being grazed by a bullet.

“Police responded to reports of an armed person near Oxford Street and Wentworth Street West in Oshawa. A male sustained minor injuries after being grazed by a bullet and was taken to a local area hospital. Expect police presence in the area,” said an afternoon alert.

Further information will be released as it becomes available, police said.

Youth and Adult Arrested After BB-gun Theft

In a separate incident, a youth and adult male are in custody after an armed street level robbery in Oshawa.

On Monday, September 29 at about 7:20 pm, members of Central East Division responded to an armed person call in the area of Albert Street and Fisher Street.  A 19-year-old and 17-year-old male met with the victim to purchase a bb-gun.  When the victim showed the suspects the bb-gun, the suspects made threats with a firearm and a large knife before stealing the bb-gun and fleeing.

Officers searched the area and located both suspects, who were taken into custody without incident.  Further investigation revealed the firearm used during the robbery to be an imitation weapon.

The victim did not sustain any physical injuries.

The adult suspect, age 19 from Oshawa, and a 17-year-old male from Whitby were charged and held for a bail hearing. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.

Anyone with cellphone, dash cam, surveillance footage or information about this incident is asked to contact Cst. Dominie of Central East Division at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 3142.
