Cyclist taken to trauma centre after being hit by car

A cyclist remains in serious condition after being struck by a vehicle on Taunton Road in Oshawa on Tuesday night.

On August 20, 2019, at 9:30 pm, officers were called to the area of Taunton Road West and Somerville Street in Oshawa for reports of a collision. A vehicle was travelling westbound on Taunton Road when the driver swerved to avoid a cyclist crossing Taunton Road.

The vehicle hit the cyclist, lost control of the car, veered off the road and hit a hydro box, knocking it over. The cyclist was thrown from his bicycle.

The 55-year-old male cyclist was taken to a Toronto trauma centre. He remains in serious but stable condition. The 24-year-old male driver of the vehicle did not suffer serious injuries and was taken to hospital as a precaution. There were no passengers in the vehicle at the time.
