Woman serious after car veers into Clarington ditch

A 29-year-old Peterborough woman sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries after a single vehicle collision in north Clarington on Tuesday.

On August 20 at 11:50 am, officers were called to Regional Road 20 north of Concession Road 10 in Clarington for a single vehicle collision. Members of the O.P.P. were first on scene along with Durham Paramedic Services. An unmarked Peterborough Police Service vehicle was in the area at the time of the collision and contacted the DRPS to investigate. As a precautionary measure, the Peterborough Police Service contacted the SIU, which did not invoke its mandate.

Witnesses reported a grey Chevrolet SUV was travelling southbound on Regional Road 20 when it lost control, veered across the northbound lane and entered a ditch. The vehicle then hit a culvert and a tree before coming to rest in the ditch. The lone female occupant of the vehicle was taken to Lakeridge Health – Bowmanville for serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The investigation is continuing. The roadway was closed for several hours to facilitate the investigation.
