Designs finalized for two new parks in Scugog

Scugog has finalized designs of two planned parks, the Cawkers Creek Park on Sherrington Drive, and the Ashgrove Park on Ash Street.

In a community survey, the municipality received 92 responses on the draft designs. As well, the draft designs were presented to the Scugog Accessibility Advisory Committee and the Scugog Environmental Advisory Committee for feedback, said a statement.

“The parks were revised based on the comments received, where possible. Some of the requests were not possible due to budget constraints.” the statement reads.

The changes to the Cawkers Creek Park include the addition of swings, a shade structure, more benches and changing the colour of the playground equipment to more natural colours. There was mixed feedback on a basketball court for this park, however, council passed a motion to include the basketball court to provide an activity for youth within the park. The park design was modified with additional berms to help decrease the noise from the basketball court.

The Ashgrove Park was modified to include swings and realign the trails to provide connectivity through the woodlot. As well, additional benches were added at the entryway.

The Cawkers Creek Park is scheduled for construction in the summer/fall and the Ashgrove Park is scheduled for construction in 2023.
