Did U.S. consul general speak about GM Oshawa?

The City of Oshawa and community partners welcomed U.S. Consul General Greg Stanford and leaders from the U.S. Consulate General Toronto during their visit to Oshawa on July 10.

The visit to Oshawa was part of the U.S. Consul General’s tour of the province that includes meetings with a number of Ontario municipalities, said a statement. But perhaps, the issue of GM closure was raised. If anyone heard him say anything, can you please let us know at editor@durhampost.ca.

During the day-long visit, Consul General Stanford toured the city and took part in a roundtable with business, post-secondary and community leaders hosted by the Greater Oshawa Chamber of Commerce, the statement to the press said.

Mayor Dan Carter was on hand to greet Consul General Stanford. They discussed opportunities for collaboration and the strengthening of partnerships.

Mayor Carter spoke to how Oshawa is embracing new opportunities for change with a focus on innovation and advanced technologies. He spoke to Oshawa’s solid economic foundation, diversified economy, talented workforce and market-driven post-secondary programs that will lead the city well into the future.

Mayor Carter and Consul General Stanford also toured the National Inventors Hall of Fame, Inc’s the first-ever Canadian offering of Camp Invention™ at Durham College. Funded by U.S. Mission to Canada, this camp provides a unique experience for children of Oshawa to learn about science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
