Disturbed Oshawa man asked officers to kill him

A 23-year-old male is facing numerous firearms-related charges after discharging a firearm within a residence in Oshawa on Sunday.

On October 27 at 6:30 pm, members of Central West Division responded to a residence near Simcoe Street North and Britannia Avenue West in Oshawa for a disturbance call. The original call was for a male party throwing items off his balcony and causing a disturbance. Officers arrived and located the male nearby, the male was distraught and wanted the officers to kill him. The male was apprehended under the Mental Health Act and taken to a local hospital.

Further investigation revealed that the male discharged a firearm in the residence before he left on foot. A search warrant was executed in the residence and a shotgun and ammunition were seized. No injuries were reported.

The 23-year-old male of Oshawa, is charged with: Mischief Under $5,000; Careless Storage of Firearm; Contravention of Storage Regulations; Unauthorized Possession of Firearm; Possession of Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized and Possession of Firearm Knowing Serial Number Tampered. He was held for a bail hearing.
