A 33-year-old Whitby male, originally charged in December 2020, is facing additional charges for a variety of sexual offences.
In December 2020, the DRPS – Internet Child Exploitation Unit executed a search warrant at a residence in Whitby and arrested the suspect. Devices seized from the home were analyzed and they contained over one million media files, said a police media release.
With assistance from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security – Investigations (HSI), investigators identified 12 child victims. HSI located all of the victims and they have been safeguarded.
The suspect has been further charged with: Luring; Making Child Pornography; Making Sexually Explicit Material Available to a Child; Extortion; Uttering Threats; Criminal Harassment and Voyeurism.
The Durham Regional Police would like to acknowledge the assistance of the Department of Homeland Security and both the Canadian National and Ontario Provincial Strategies to Protect Children from Sexual Abuse and Exploitation on the Internet.
“This project has been made possible by a grant from the Ministry of the Solicitor General,” said the DRPS statement.
