Durham police yesterday said a 17-year-old male responsible for shooting a 20-year-old male has been arrested in Bowmanville in the Municipality of Clarington.
Jeff Keibel, who was enjoying a quiet meal on Thursday, July 30th sometime after 10 pm in McDonald’s off Highway 2, heard what he described as a quick blast of what sounded like gun shots. “It was super loud, that’s for sure. I definitely flinched when I heard it,” he said.
“Almost immediately, as in mere seconds, multiple police cars had cornered a vehicle in the McDonald’s parking lot. A suspect was seen taken from the car, then ordered to sit on the curb at the edge of the lot,” Keibel added.
“No gun shots were fired. Noise heard could have been associated to the police take down of the accused,” a police spokesperson .told Durham Post.
The Shooting
A police statement said on Sunday, June 14 at about 3 pm, members of Central East Division responded to a shooting in the area of Ritson Road North and Pentland Street in Oshawa. Officers arrived on scene and located a male suffering from a gunshot wound.
The victim was transported to a local area hospital in serious but non-life-threatening condition and has since been upgraded to stable.
Following an extensive investigation, on Thursday, July 30, members of the East Crime Team, with the assistance of the Offender Management Unit and Tactical Support Unit, located the suspect and took him into custody in Bowmanville.
Weapons Prohibition Condition
At the time of the shooting the accused was on weapons prohibition conditions, the statement said.
A 17-year-old male from Oshawa was charged with: Aggravated Assault, Assault with a Weapon, Discharge Firearm with Intent to Endanger Life, Possess Prohibited/Restricted Firearm – No Licence, Possession of Prohibited/Restricted Firearm, Careless Use of Firearm, Possess Weapon Dangerous, Carry Concealed Weapon, Point Firearm, and Fail to Comply with Undertaking.
He was held for a bail hearing.
