Durham carjackings after failed drug deals

Three males face numerous charges after two carjackings occurred in Oshawa and Whitby.

The first incident occurred on December 28 at 4:50 pm. The victim was seated in his vehicle near Hazelwood Drive and Jeanne Court in Whitby where he met the three suspects for a drug transaction. The three suspects entered his vehicle, one armed with a machete and a knife and demanded the vehicle from the victim. The suspects fled with his Chevrolet Impala, police said.

Police located the unoccupied stolen vehicle at approximately 10:00 pm, near Simcoe Street in Oshawa. One of the suspects was seen entering the stolen vehicle and with the assistance of Air1 and the Tactical Support Unit, the vehicle was stopped and one of the suspects (Hyman) was arrested. Police searched for the other two males with negative results, said a police media release.

On  January 3, at 8:50 am, members of Central West Division responded to a robbery in the area of Simcoe Street and Conlin Road in Oshawa. The victim advised that two suspects stole his grey Nissan Sentra after a failed drug transaction. One male was armed with a knife. Responding officers located the stolen vehicle at Winchester Road and Simcoe Street in Oshawa and arrested the two suspects without incident. The two suspects were also responsible for the Whitby incident.

The victims didn’t sustain any physical injuries.

Mekhi Hyman, age 20, of Ball Court in Whitby and Alex Dukunde, age 18 of Simcoe Street in Oshawa face numerous charges including: Robbery; Theft of a Motor Vehicle; Weapons Dangerous; Possession of Property Obtained by Crime; Carry Concealed Weapon; Unlawfully Possess Schedule I Substance (cocaine) and Operation While Prohibited.

A 16-year-old male from Oshawa faces numerous charges including: Robbery; Theft of Motor Vehicle x2; Robbery with an Offensive Weapon and Trafficking in Schedule I Substance (crystal meth).

They were all held for a bail hearing.
