Durham covid cases tally crosses 8,000

Durham Health yesterday posted 131 cases for January 4 taking the region’s tally to 8,065 since the count began on February 29. Another 12 cases are under investigation.

Recoveries stand at 6,902, up by 125. There are 921 active covid cases.

There were:

  • 22 new cases in Pickering
  • 40 in Ajax
  • 49 in Whitby
  • 23 in Oshawa
  • 14 in Clarington
  • Two in Uxbridge
  • 13 in Scugog, and
  • One in Brock

Forty-one cases are hospitalized with 13 in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 880 people in home isolation.

Total death toll is at 242 with 202 in long term care homes (LTCHs).

Durham Health reported the highest number of cases so far at 2,360 in Ajax.

Death Toll: 242

Of the 92 reported deaths in Pickering, 86 were in LTCH
Of the 44 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTCH
Thirty-four deaths were reported in Whitby, 29 in LTCH
Of the 43 reported deaths in Oshawa, 34 were in LTCH
Eight deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTCH]
21 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTCH
No deaths have been reported in Scugog
No deaths have been reported in Brock
