64 LTCH covid outbreaks in Durham last year

It may be an understatement to state that Durham Health had a busy 2020. Most of the past year was spent focussing on efforts to stop the spread of Covid-19.

One of the key things that stand out was the outbreak of covid-19 in long-term care homes(LTCHs), retirement homes and hospitals. Durham public health inspectors managed 64 such outbreaks last year as of December 16.

It also reported investigations into 88 cases of people failing quarantine requirements, as well 255 cases of confirmed positive cases not being in touch for follow-up.

Durham public health inspectors investigated 10,622 facilities in the region last year.

Apart from answering the 131,579 phone calls related to covid, staff received and distributed (for follow-up) 119,747 test results.
