Durham Covid Update: Active cases drop sharply

Durham Health yesterday posted 266 new Covid-19 cases for January 26, taking the region’s tally to 49,569 since the count began on February 29, 2020.

At the end of December last year, the total case count had stood at 35,663.

Durham’s overall death toll stands at 412, with 230 of them occurring in LTCs (long term care facilities). One new death was reported in Pickering.

Recoveries stand at 46,242. However, there are 2,915 active covid cases. Figures for hospitalizations and Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and people in home isolation, were not available.

Durham Health reported the highest overall number of covid cases so far in Ajax.

Covid Deaths: 412

Of the 125 reported deaths in Pickering, 89 were in LTC
Of the 71 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTC
Of the 66 reported deaths in Whitby, 31 in LTC
Of the 79 reported deaths in Oshawa, 43 were in LTC
23 deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTC]
26 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTC
18 deaths have been reported in Scugog, 14 in LTC
4 deaths have been reported in Brock
