Durham Covid Update: Cases drop but two new deaths added

Durham Health yesterday posted 220 new Covid-19 cases for January 25, taking the region’s tally to 49,290 since the count began on February 29, 2020.

At the end of December last year, the total case count had stood at 35,663.

Durham’s overall death toll stands at 411, with 230 of them occurring in LTCs (long term care facilities). One new death was reported in Ajax, while another was reported from Oshawa.

Recoveries stand at 43,012. However, there are 3,867 active covid cases. Figures for hospitalizations and Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and people in home isolation, were not available.

Durham Health reported the highest overall number of covid cases so far in Ajax.

Covid Deaths: 411

Of the 124 reported deaths in Pickering, 89 were in LTC
Of the 71 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTC
Of the 66 reported deaths in Whitby, 31 in LTC
Of the 79 reported deaths in Oshawa, 43 were in LTC
23 deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTC]
26 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTC
18 deaths have been reported in Scugog, 14 in LTC
4 deaths have been reported in Brock
