Durham January covid deaths at 17, three in December

January death toll so far has risen to 17 as compared to three in December, according to statistics posted by Durham Health.

It yesterday posted 189 new Covid-19 cases for January 24, taking the region’s tally to 49,067 since the count began on February 29, 2020.

At the end of December last year, the total case count had stood at 35,663.

Durham’s overall death toll stands at 409, with 230 of them occurring in LTCs (long term care facilities). There was one new death in a Pickering LTC, while another was reported from Whitby.

Recoveries stand at 43,322. However, there are 5,336 active covid cases. Figures for hospitalizations and Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and people in home isolation, were not available.

Durham Health reported the highest overall number of covid cases so far in Ajax.

Covid Deaths: 409

Of the 124 reported deaths in Pickering, 89 were in LTC
Of the 70 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTC
Of the 66 reported deaths in Whitby, 31 in LTC
Of the 78 reported deaths in Oshawa, 43 were in LTC
23 deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTC]
26 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTC
18 deaths have been reported in Scugog, 14 in LTC
4 deaths have been reported in Brock
