Second degree murder charge for cabdriver shooting suspect

Durham Police yesterday announced that the suspect, who is believed to have shot dead the 57-year old taxi driver in Oshawa, will face second degree murder charges.

Investigators yesterday also confirmed the identity of the 57-year-old victim in Durham Region’s second homicide of 2022. The victim has been identified as Michael Ryan, age 57, of Oshawa.

On Friday, January 21 at about 3:20 pm, members of Central East Division responded to a shooting at King Street East, near Central Park Boulevard. The victim was located with obvious signs of trauma. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital, said a police statement. It did not elaborate on why the suspect was shot.

Police arrested the suspect near the scene. A firearm was located and seized at the scene. The 31-year old suspect of No Fixed Address is charged with Second Degree Murder, police said.
