Durham Covid Update: Four new deaths posted

Durham Health yesterday posted 142 new Covid-19 cases for January 23, taking the region’s tally to 48,845 since the count began on February 29, 2020.

At the end of December last year, the total case count had stood at 35,663.

Durham’s overall death toll stands at 407, with 229 of them occurring in LTCs (long term care facilities). There were two new deaths in Pickering with one of them in a LTC. The other two non-LTC deaths were posted from Whitby and one in Uxbridge. One death has been adjusted from Ajax.

Recoveries stand at 39,926. However, there are 8,512 active covid cases. Figures for hospitalizations and Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and people in home isolation, were not available.

Durham Health reported the highest overall number of covid cases so far in Ajax.

Covid Deaths: 407

Of the 123 reported deaths in Pickering, 88 were in LTC
Of the 70 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTC
Of the 65 reported deaths in Whitby, 31 in LTC
Of the 78 reported deaths in Oshawa, 43 were in LTC
23 deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTC]
26 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTC
18 deaths have been reported in Scugog, 14 in LTC
4 deaths have been reported in Brock
