Utility provider Elexicon Energy last night said the power outage in Pickering yesterday was due to vandalism.
Outage due to Vandalism in City if Pickering affecting Moorelands, Anthony, Foster, Houston, Cowan, Gillmoss…,” said a tweet. It did not provide further details, or if the police has been informed.
Another tweet mentioned that the power outage in Whitby was caused by a damaged hydro pole.
“We’ve been informed that there is an issue with a feeder in the Town of Whitby (Rossland Road East from Thickson Road North to Garden Street to Dundas Street East). Our teams are actively investigating the issue and we hope to have an ETR soon. Thank you for your patience.
“A snow plow hit the pole in front of the station and damaged the feeder. We hope to have the remaining customers power restored within an hour or so. Thanks for your patience,” said a tweet.
Elexicon later announced that all power has been restored in Whitby in area south of Taunton Road East and east of Garden Street to the Oshawa border. “We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.”
The outage in Whitby affected 4,956 customers.

The picture of the pole is not from vandalism, nor is it from Pickering; it is from an incident in Whitby where a plow hit the pole.
