Oshawa recreation facilities to reopen at 50% capacity

Oshawa yesterday announced that city recreation facilities will reopen January 31 for limited use.

In response to public health and health care indicators starting to show signs of improvement, the Province of Ontario has announced steps to cautiously and gradually ease public health measures.

With safety of the upmost priority, Oshawa will reopen recreation facilities effective Monday, January 31 in a manner that meets stringent health and safety protocols and that follows provincial orders and the medical advice of the Region of Durham. City recreation facilities will be operating under 50 per cent capacity indoors and community members ages 12 years and older, including individuals with an eligible medical exemption, will be required to present identification along with an enhanced vaccine certificate with QR code, said a city statement.

Recreation Facilities to reopen

Effective Monday, January 31, the following City recreation facilities will reopen for limited use by appointment only:

To ensure health and safety protocols are followed, use of recreation facilities is by appointment only. Bookings will open beginning on Friday, January 28 at 10 am and can be made online at Register.Oshawa.ca or by calling a city recreation facility.

The activeOshawa Winter 2022 program session will begin on Friday, February 11 and registration is available at Register.Oshawa.ca. The number of classes for registered programs have been adjusted to account for facility closures. Program registrants will receive further communication from Recreation & Culture Services regarding winter programs in the coming days.

All membership holders will have their membership reactivated to be effective for the reopening of facilities. Membership holders will be compensated accordingly to account for the facility closures. Membership payments will resume on Tuesday, February 1 for members on scheduled payments.

Enhanced Vaccination Certification

In order to access city recreation facilities, community members ages 12 years and older, including individuals with an eligible medical exemption, are required to present identification along with an enhanced vaccine certificate with QR code showing proof of being fully vaccinated against Covid-19. This requirement also extends to all coaches, officials and other volunteers entering a recreation facility.

Oshawa Public Libraries and OSCC55+

All Oshawa Public Libraries branches are open for in-person visits, including at Delpark Homes Centre. Physical distancing, proper hand hygiene, and wearing a non-medical face mask or face covering are required while visiting the Library.

All branches of the OSCC55+ will be open as of Monday, January 31, from 8:30 am to 4 pm, including the Delpark Homes Centre Branch. Dining rooms will be open at the John Street, Northview and Conant Branches with meal service hours of 9:30 am until 1:30 pm.
