Durham Covid Update: Three new deaths posted

Durham Health yesterday posted 595 new Covid-19 cases for January 5, taking the region’s tally to 39,056 since the count began on February 29, 2020.

At the end of December this year, the total case count had stood at 35,663.

Durham’s overall death toll stands at 394, with 227 of them occurring in LTCs (long term care facilities). Two new deaths were posted for Pickering, and one in Brock.

Recoveries stand at 31,905. However, there are 6,757 active covid cases. Hospitalizations and Intensive Care Unit (ICU) were not available. A total of 6,751 people are in home isolation.

Durham Health reported the highest overall number of covid cases so far in Ajax.

Covid Deaths: 394

Of the 119 reported deaths in Pickering, 87 were in LTC
Of the 69 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTC
Of the 63 reported deaths in Whitby, 31 in LTC
Of the 73 reported deaths in Oshawa, 42 were in LTC
23 deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTC]
26 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTC
17 deaths have been reported in Scugog, 14 in LTC
4 deaths have been reported in Brock
