Weed smell gives away loaded gun, narcotics haul

Durham Police yesterday said a 27-year-old male is facing numerous charges after a loaded firearm was located during a traffic stop.

On Friday, January 12, at about 11:30 pm, members of Central West Division conducted a vehicle stop in the area of Brock Street South and Keith Street in Whitby.

While speaking with the driver, officers detected a strong smell of cannabis coming from the vehicle. A search of the vehicle was conducted under the Cannabis Control Act and officers located a fully-loaded firearm. The driver was placed under arrest. During a search of the driver, police located a quantity of narcotics, said a police statement.

The suspect of Markham was charged and held for a bail hearing. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.
