Fleeing driver ditches stolen car, accomplices caught too

Car thieves from Quebec struck again in Durham – but unsuccessfully – as three of them were pursued and taken into custody.

On Tuesday, January 9 at about 5:40 am, members of West Division responded to a stolen vehicle call in the area of Finch Avenue and Brock Road in Pickering.

The victim confronted the suspects when they observed their black Toyota SUV being stolen from their driveway. One suspect fled on foot while another suspect fled in the stolen vehicle, said a police statement.

Officers located the stolen vehicle entering the westbound Highway 401 from Brock Road. Police strategically followed the stolen vehicle until it exited Highway 401 at Meadowvale Road. A traffic stop was attempted, however the vehicle fled from police. The vehicle was pursued to the area of Finch Avenue and Shadow Place in Pickering, where the driver ditched the vehicle and fled on foot.

Police set up a perimeter near Finch Avenue and Shadow Place, and with the assistance of the K9 unit, located the male and took him into custody without incident. A suspicious vehicle was also observed driving in the area during this time. A traffic stop was conducted and the occupants were linked to the vehicle theft.

Through further investigation, a rental property was found to be associated to the males in custody. A check of that rental property found another male still inside who was breaching his conditions. The male attempted to flee the residence but was taken into custody without incident.

Two of the suspects were held for a bail hearing. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.

Anyone with new information about this incident is asked to contact the West Division Criminal Investigations Branch at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1905.

Editor’s Note: Durham Post does not name or identify the accused as:
