Durham Health adds 19 new covid deaths to overall toll

Durham Health yesterday added 19 new covid deaths, bringing Durham’s overall toll to 469, with 243 of them in long-term care (LTC) facilities.

It added:

  • Five new deaths in Pickering including one in LTC;
  • Two in Ajax including one in LTC;
  • Six in Whitby;
  • Four in Oshawa; and
  • Two in Clarington.

March toll in the region stood at seven. Twenty-three people died from covid in February, and 31 in January.

Durham Health also posted 105 new Covid-19 cases for April 4, taking the region’s tally to 56,502 since the count began on February 29, 2020.

The total case count had stood at 50,241 in January, 53,117 in February and 56,061 in March, according to figures posted by Durham Health.

Recoveries stood at 55,381. However, there are 652 active covid cases. Figures for hospitalizations and Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and people in home isolation, were not available.

Durham Health reported the highest overall number of covid cases so far in Ajax, with Oshawa a close second.

Covid Deaths: 469

Of the 137 reported deaths in Pickering, 93 were in LTC
Of the 84 reported deaths in Ajax, 34 were in LTC
Of the 77 reported deaths in Whitby, 33 in LTC
Of the 89 reported deaths in Oshawa, 43 were in LTC
32 deaths were reported in Clarington, five in LTC
28 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 21 in LTC
18 deaths have been reported in Scugog, 14 in LTC
4 deaths have been reported in Brock
