Durham January covid toll revised to four

Durham Health yesterday updated the Covid-19 death toll to four with one death on January 1 and three on January 2. There were 53 covid deaths in December and five in November.

The four new non-LTCH deaths were reported in Pickering, Ajax, Whitby and Uxbridge.

Durham Health posted 137 cases for January 5 taking the region’s tally to 8,205 since the count began on February 29. Another 14 cases are under investigation.

Recoveries stand at 7,141, up by 239. There are 820 active covid cases.

There were:

  • 35 new cases in Pickering
  • 48 in Ajax
  • 13 in Whitby
  • 26 in Oshawa
  • 12 in Clarington, and
  • 4 in Scugog

Forty-one cases are hospitalized with 13 in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 779 people in home isolation.

Total death toll is at 244 with 202 in long term care homes (LTCHs).

Durham Health reported the highest number of cases so far at 2,408 in Ajax.

Of the 92 reported deaths in Pickering, 86 were in LTCH
Of the 44 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTCH
Thirty-five deaths were reported in Whitby, 29 in LTCH
Of the 43 reported deaths in Oshawa, 34 were in LTCH
Eight deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTCH]
22 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTCH
No deaths have been reported in Scugog
No deaths have been reported in Brock
