Durham Region Health Department is offering booster doses of Covid-19 vaccine to children five to 11-years old. Bookings opened on September 1.
Individuals five to 11-years old will now be able to receive a booster dose 168 days (or six months) after they have finished their primary Covid-19 vaccine series. Appointments can be booked at durham.ca/vaccineappointment or by calling 1-888-444-5113, said a Durham Health statement.
Children in this age group with underlying medical conditions who are at greater risk of severe outcomes due to Covid-19 infection are recommended to receive a booster. However, all children five to 11-years old are eligible to receive a first booster dose.
The interval of 168 days (six months) may be associated with a lower risk of myocarditis with or without pericarditis. With informed consent, children five to 11-years old may receive a booster dose at a minimum of three months (84 days) after completion of a primary COVID-19 vaccine series.
