Durham Police holds its first Citizens Academy

Oshawa: The first Citizens Academy created by the Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) got underway at the DRPS East Division this week.

Insp. Courneyea, S/Sgt Lamothe and Sgt Samuels did the introductions to 20 plus citizens.

Deputy Chief Bertrim, Deputy Chief Rollauer and CEO Stan Maclellan addressed the Citizens Academy members and thanked them for taking time from their busy lives to learn about DRPS. They said DRPS will definitely learn from the citizens.

Det. Wannamaker from the Criminal Investigations Bureau (CIB) office explained how they assist front line uniform officers in serious crimes in the community. They assist other specialty bureaus when needed. He also touched on the importance of video surveillance.

S/Sgt Lamothe, who currently works out of DRPS Central West Division, explained the patrol zones in 5 uniform divisions.
