The Region of Durham said it is sending a message of inclusion to everyone who visits its corporate headquarters building in Whitby with the installation of a rainbow crosswalk.
“We want everyone who enters our headquarters building to feel welcome when they cross the vibrant rainbow crosswalk. Durham’s beautiful new crosswalk is a bold symbol of belonging—showcasing how the Region of Durham values, embraces and celebrates diversity and equality. Everyone is welcome in Durham,” said a media announcement.
Durham Region’s Headquarters building, located at 605 Rossland Road East in Whitby, is the corporate headquarters for The Regional Municipality of Durham, Durham Regional Police Service and Durham Region Transit.
The building—which also houses Provincial Offences Act courts and an Ontario Works office—sees more than 1,400 staff and visitors come through its doors daily.
Durham Region’s rainbow crosswalk was installed in-house by Works Department staff.
