Elderly woman pedestrian dies after afternoon hit

Durham police said an elderly female has succumbed to her injuries after being struck by a vehicle in Whitby.

On Friday, January 9 around 1:15 pm, members of Central West Division responded to a pedestrian involved collision at Brock Street North and Mary Street West.

An 82-year-old female was attempting to cross the street when she was struck by a vehicle. The driver remained on scene and cooperated with police. The pedestrian was transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre in life-threatening condition where she later succumbed to her injuries, police said.

Members of the DRPS – Collision Investigation Unit, attended the scene to conduct an investigation into the circumstances of the incident. The roadway was closed for several hours while evidence was collected.
