Five chase victim’s car, trash windshield, cause crash

Durham Police are appealing for witnesses or dash cam footage from a collision that occurred in a Whitby parking lot earlier this month.

On July 10 at about 12:40 am, a single motor vehicle collision occurred on the property of Sinclair Secondary School in Whitby. An object was thrown at a vehicle and broke the front windshield, causing the driver to lose control and crash the vehicle. The driver suffered serious injuries, and was treated and released from hospital. The two passengers inside received minor injuries, said a police statement.

Investigators have discovered that five motor vehicles were pursuing the victim’s motor vehicle through Brooklin and Whitby at approximately 12:30 am that Sunday morning. The suspect vehicles chased the victim’s vehicle onto the high school property where one suspect exited and threw the object through the victim’s windshield, it added.

The five suspect vehicles involved in the chase are: a silver Nissan Altima, grey BMW sedan, a white SUV (unknown make or model), a black sedan (unknown make or model), and a crossover vehicle (unknown colour, make or model).

Investigators are requesting assistance from the public for anyone with any dash cam video, or who may have witnessed the incident.

Anyone with any information is requested to contact D/Cst. Roffey or D/Cst. Crosbie of the Central West Division Criminal Investigations at 1-888-579-1520, ext.1815.
