Free trees available for Oshawa residents this September

Oshawa residents and property owners will soon have the chance to receive free trees as part of the Oshawa Environmental Advisory Committee’s (OEAC) efforts to expand the city’s tree canopy.

Each registrant is eligible for two free trees, while supplies last. Quantities are limited and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration is required and will be open from Monday, September 1 to Friday, September 5, through an online form.

Three tree species are available:

  • White Pine – a native species common throughout Ontario and eastern Canada.
  • Sugar Maple – Canada’s national tree, known for its large leaves and vibrant fall colours.
  • Burr Oak – a hardy oak that grows widely across Southern Ontario and into northwestern parts of the province.

Those registering must be available to pick up their trees on the morning of Saturday, September 27. If they are unable to attend, they can designate someone else to pick up on their behalf during the registration process.

Because supplies are limited, registering does not guarantee a tree. All registrants will be notified of their status by Friday, September 19, via email or phone.

Tree pick-up will run rain or shine. Participants are asked to remain in their vehicles and open their trunks so staff can load the trees directly.
