GO Expansion: Aerial survey of Lakeshore East planned

Metrolinx, the operator of GO, has announced that it will undertake an aerial survey operation within the Lakeshore East rail corridor on November 28.

It said the survey is to support GO expansion. Metrolinx is upgrading the rail network and GO stations to bring more frequent and fully accessible service, including trains every 15-minutes or better on key segments of the network.

As part of investigative work for the GO Expansion project, a Remote Piloted Aircraft (RPAS/Drone) will perform aerial surveys along the Lakeshore East rail corridor. The drone will capture images and data for pre-engineer design mapping. This survey will support the design of future track and infrastructure updates.

The survey is expected to take place between the hours of 8 am and 5 pm on November 28 with alternative dates of November 29 and 30. Work may be rescheduled or extended due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances, said Metrolinx.

It said the drone will be flown over the rail corridor between the limits of Highway 412 and Durham College Oshawa GO Station within the rail corridor. There will be staff on-site conducting and monitoring the operation.

No impacts to traffic or pedestrian routes are anticipated during this work, and no impacts to public transit are anticipated either.
