He first tried to rob… then tried to buy a sub

Durham Police investigators are trying to identify a lone male who threatened to rob a Bowmanville sub shop on the weekend.

On Sunday, October 18, at about 9:30 am, a lone male entered the Mr. Sub location on Baseline Road West at Regional Road 57 in Bowmanville. The male approached the counter and said he was going to rob the store. The employee called 911 and the suspect then asked to purchase a sub, but later admitted he had no money, said a police statement.

The male then exited the store and headed east toward the Petro Canada gas station located on Bowmanville Avenue, where he entered the passenger side of a dark blue Chevrolet Impala. The vehicle drove away and two other males were seen inside the vehicle in addition to the suspect.

The suspect did not take any property and no weapon was seen. He is described as a male, white, between 20-30 years old, 6′ tall (183 cms) and about 170 lbs. (77 kilos) with a skinny build, wearing a grey hoody and blue jeans. He also was wearing a face mask and white gloves.
