Home Depot defrauded of $7,000 by Durham man

A Scugog resident faces numerous charges following a fraud investigation, according to Durham Police.

Investigators from the DRPS Financial Crimes Unit commenced a fraud investigation spanning from October 2019 until April 2021. Investigators received reports of a suspect who was stealing items and making fraudulent returns at various Home Depot’s throughout the region. The suspect would make a purchase and take the item to his vehicle. He would re-enter the store and steal the same or slightly more expensive version of the product. He would then return the item with the receipt at a different store, police said.

Home Depot suffered a loss of approximately $7,000.

James Dixon, age 55, of Highway 12 in Scugog is charged with: Fraud Over $5,000; Theft Over $5,000 and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000.

He was released on an Undertaking.
