Impaired drives into snowbank, free self but not from police

An impaired driver on Tuesday drove into a snowbank and got stuck. He managed to free his vehicle loose, but drove straight into the arms of waiting police.

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) said: “Early this morning (Tuesday), members of DRPS East Division located an impaired driver, thanks to a citizen who called in.”

The driver struck a snowbank, lodging his vehicle in the snow. He freed the vehicle and was then stopped by police. Please don’t drive impaired, said the police.

The incident happened on Townline Road South and Kingsway Gate in Clarington at about 1:10 am.

Police said a witness observed a black Buick sedan strike a snowbank and become stuck. The driver freed the vehicle and drove off but was stopped by the police.

The 42-year old man from Clarington was arrested and is facing charges.
