Impaired Driving: Car goes off roadway and flips onto its roof

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) said on Monday, July 1 at about 4am, members of East Division and Central East Division responded to a vehicle collision in the area of Harmony Road South and Bloor Street East, in Oshawa.

A car had gone off the roadway and flipped onto its roof, said police.

Officers arrived on the scene and found the vehicle unoccupied. They searched the area and located a male attempting to enter a waiting vehicle. The man matched the description of the damaged vehicle’s owner and had injuries consistent with a car accident, police said.

They said the man showed signs of alcohol impairment, and was taken into custody without incident.

He was transported to a local area hospital with minor injuries sustained from the collision.

A 23 year old male from Clarington was charged. He completed two alcohol breath tests with results of 160mg and 150mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood. The legal driving limit for alcohol consumption is 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood. The driver was two times over the legal limit.

His license has been suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days, police said.
