A message left in Bowmanville

Let’s show how #DurhamStrong we are

The Region of Durham has launched a campaign, highlighting incredible stories of community resiliency and kindness, even as the world is faced with the scourge of Covid-19.

The #DurhamStrong campaign celebrates all the positive and inspirational stories from across the region: sidewalks chalked with inspiring messages and art, thank-you messages for front-line workers, neighbours dropping off groceries and other necessities, and people doing their part to practise social distancing and stay home, said a media release.

“Thank you for your strong response to help us all overcome the Covid-19 global pandemic. Our community has really come together to do what is needed, and to help those who are most vulnerable, during this emergency. Together we are #DurhamStrong,” said John Henry, Regional Chair and Chief Executive Officer.

All Durham residents are invited to join in and help spread love, kindness and encouragement to all homes and workplaces in Durham.

Here’s how you can take part:

  • Show how you’re spreading kindness in the community by using #DurhamStrong on social media. Post your photos and tag @RegionofDurham on Facebook or Twitter. The Region is resharing these posts with #DurhamStrong.
  • Add the #DurhamStrong Facebook frame to your profile picture or Facebook stories to help spread the word. Select your profile picture to add a frame, and search #DurhamStrong or ‘Durham Region’ to add it to your profile.
  • Download the Region of Durham’s free Facebook and Twitter cover photos to help promote social distancing.
  • Keep doing your part to flatten the curve: practise social distancing and stay home. Wash your hands and avoid touching your face.

Follow the Region of Durham on Facebook or Twitter to join the conversation and see how your friends, family and neighbours are staying #DurhamStrong.

“Durham Region is here for you. Our staff are working hard to deliver the essential services you and your family need. I want you to know that your messages of kindness for the important work they’re doing are so appreciated, and are lifting all of our spirits through this challenging time,” said Elaine Baxter-Trahair, Chief Administrative Officer.

Clarington launches #SpreadLove campaign

As a show of community unity, the Municipality of Clarington launched a #SpreadLove social media campaign to face the challenges of Covid-19.

Clarington is asking all residents to join us in this campaign and show  love for the community while maintaining a safe physical distance.

“We are launching this campaign to encourage residents to stay social while physically distancing. As we all turn to social media for engagement and human contact, we can also show how we are dealing with this current situation. We are in this together, and together we will overcome,” said Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster.

Here’s how residents can participate:

  • Change your Facebook profile photo to include the Clarington frame. When you go to change your photo, you can also add and search for a frame, look for Clarington, #SpreadLove.
  • Tag on Facebook (@MunofClarington) and Twitter (@ClaringtonON) and show photos of how you and your family are coping with this situation. Document any acts of kindness and how you are reaching out to your community. Clarington will share and retweet and #SpreadLove.

Add the hashtag #SpreadLove to all your posts and include #DurhamStrong.

“Love and kindness are infectious. As we face this unprecedented challenge of COVID-19, there are many ways we can spread love, happiness and hope. Join this campaign and tell us how you have #SpreadLove in Clarington,” added Mayor Foster.
