Controversial City of Pickering Councillor, Lisa Robinson, has hit out at the city-appointed and paid-by integrity commissioner, who she claims is biased.
The Town of Whitby had a similar controversy (see below) and town council decided to consider removal of the private paid-for closed meeting investigating firm. There is an Ontario Ombudsman, which helps keep government and public services accountable. It is an independent officer of the legislature and not a government department.
Alleging that politicians create fake scandals to silence opposition, Councillor Robinson said almost 100 per cent of her 33 Code of Conduct breaches, came from complaints filed by the mayor and his Chief Administrative Officer.
Video Address
In a video address released yesterday (see below), she also alleged that a senior town official “instructed staff (on your dime) to comb through every video, column, and post I’ve ever made — just to dig up vague ‘breaches'”.
Councillor Robinson said the integrity commissioner is paid by the city. “The more sanctions they push, the more money they make. And yes — Principles Integrity, the firm behind all of these findings, has already been fired from other municipalities for bias,” she said.
“This isn’t accountability. This is taxpayer-funded smear campaign. So the real question isn’t: Would you re-elect a councillor with 33 “breaches”? it’s: Would you re-elect a mayor who manufactured them, used your tax dollars to do it — and created a scandal out of silencing the truth?
There was no comment from the mayor or the city council till late last night.
