Male suspect flees after crash-wrecking stolen Acura

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) yesterday said this stolen Acura (top image) was recovered with severe damage in Pickering.

There were no reported injuries to the lone occupant. Investigators continue to look for the suspect that fled from the scene. This was the second stolen vehicle incident yesterday morning, said a DRPS West Division alert.

At about 4:40am, police were in the area of Valley Farm Road and Finch Avenue in Pickering, when they identified a stolen vehicle.

Upon seeing the police car, the driver fled the area, and police did not pursue.

However, a short distance away, the driver crashed the stolen vehicle and fled on foot, police said.

It gave a limited description of the driver as male and Black.

Carjackers cause power outage

Great work by members of West Division yesterday morning as they thwarted two suspects in Pickering from stealing vehicles.

At about 1:30 am, officers visited the area of Shadybrook Drive for a stolen vehicle investigation.

As officers arrived, they saw the suspects trying to steal a second vehicle in the same area.

As police approached, the suspects fled in the stolen vehicle and struck an electrical box before fleeing on foot.

As a result, some 10 homes in the area lost power, police said.

With the assistance of the K9 Unit, both suspects were taken into custody.

An 18-year old male from Oshawa and a another 18-year old from London are facing several charges, police said.
