Man bank-transfers $82,500 with fake ID

Durham police yesterday said an arrest warrant has been issued for a male who fraudulently accessed over $80,000 from someone else’s bank account.

On January 17, the male suspect entered a Whitby bank and falsely identified himself as an existing account holder. He was successful in transferring approximately $82,500 into another account at a different bank. It was later discovered that the suspect impersonated the real account holder by producing an altered driver’s license, police said.

Jordan Bertrand, age 33, of Unknown Address is wanted on a warrant for: Fraud Over $5,000, Identity Theft, Identity Fraud, Utter Forged Document, Unauthorized Possession of Identity Document and Fail to Comply with Recognizance.

His whereabouts are unknown, but he has ties to Edmonton, Alberta.

Anyone with information as to the location of Bertrand is asked to contact their local police service. The lead investigator in this case is Det. Carrierre of the Fraud Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5279.
