Man steals friend’s car, reveals gun when searching for ID

Durham Police said a male has been arrested for possessing a handgun after he took a friend’s vehicle without consent.

On Thursday, July 25, at about 2:40 am, members of West Division responded to a residence in Ajax after a male took a vehicle without consent.

A female and male were involved in a verbal disagreement resulting in the male taking the female’s vehicle. The vehicle was tracked to a location in Toronto, where officers located it in a plaza parking lot, said a police report.

It said the male who took the vehicle was found sleeping in the driver’s seat. As the male was searching for his ID, police observed a handgun in his bag. The male was taken into custody without incident.

The man, age 28 from Markham, was is charged with numerous offences. Police did not say whether he was held for bail or released on an undertaking. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.
