Metrolinx to drill boreholes at new GO station sites

Metrolinx has informed that it will be drilling boreholes at the sites of future GO train stations in Oshawa and Clarington, under the Lakeshore East Expansion project.

A statement said as part of investigative environmental works, crews will be drilling boreholes to complete groundwater and soil sampling on Metrolinx’s lands at

  1. 500 Howard Street, Oshawa;
  2. 1350 Courtice Road, Clarington;
  3. Prince William Boulevard and Pethick Street, Clarington; and
  4. Aspen Springs Drive and Bowmanville Avenue, Clarington.

“The investigation activities will inform future station improvement works,” it explained.

Metrolinx said intermittent borehole drilling was expected to begin as early as October 28 and is expected to be complete by November 3. Work is expected to take place Monday to Friday within the hours of 8:30 am to 6:30 pm. Work may be rescheduled or extended due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

It said residents should expect some noise, vibration, dust, and site lighting. Work crews will take reasonable precautions to minimize disturbances to residents.

  • Crews will use a truck mounted drill rig to perform the investigation works.
  • Customers and residents may experience some noise and vibration from construction vehicles and equipment.
  • Crews will drill one borehole at a time, the work zone will be safely delineated.

Metrolinx said there will be no impacts to public transit modes, traffic, or pedestrians during this work.
