Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) has not revealed what was the “threat” that led to the lockdown at one school and hold and secure (H&S) at two others in Oshawa yesterday.
Neither was the threat defined nor further details were provided. It was not announced if anyone has been identified or apprehended.
The police said: “There is no threat to public safety.”
It said the lockdown at Paul Dwyer Catholic High School, and the hold and secures at Adelaide McLaughlin Public School and R.S. McLaughlin Collegiate, in Oshawa have all been lifted.
An hour previously the police issued an alert stating that: “DRPS members are currently on-scene at Paul Dwyer Catholic High School after receiving a threat. “The school is currently on lockdown and nearby schools, Adelaide McLaughlin Public School and R.S. McLaughlin Collegiate, are on a hold and secure while police investigate. Update to follow.”
Durham-related social media was rife with speculation as to the nature of the threat.
Taunton Collision
The DRPS also announced a road closure in the Town of Whitby yesterday.
It said the eastbound lanes of Taunton Road between Garden Street and Thickson Road North, as well as the northbound lanes of Fallingbrook Street in Whitby were to be closed for a collision investigation.
It advised road users to find an alternative route.
