New covid cases drop to 18; two deaths added

Durham Health yesterday posted 18 new Covid-19 cases for February 8, taking the region’s tally to 11,120 since the count began on February 29.

It also added two covid deaths on February 2 taking the month’s toll to three. One death was in Pickering and another in a Scugog long term care (LTC) facility. Durham saw 45 covid deaths in January, 53 in December and 5 in November. The overall death toll now stands at 289 with 216 of them occurring in LTCs.

There were:

  • 8 new cases in Pickering
  • 3 in Ajax
  • 3 in Whitby
  • 3 in Oshawa
  • 4 in Clarington, and
  • 1 in Uxbridge

Recoveries stand at 10,532, up by 40. There are 299 active covid cases.

Twenty-nine cases are hospitalized with 14 in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 270 people in home isolation.

Durham Health reported the highest number of cases so far at 3,241 in Ajax.

Death Toll: Total – 289              LTCH – 216

Of the 99 reported deaths in Pickering, 86 were in LTCH
Of the 49 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTCH
Forty-four deaths were reported in Whitby, 30 in LTCH
Of the 46 reported deaths in Oshawa, 34 were in LTCH
Twelve deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTCH]
24 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTCH
Fifteen deaths have been reported in Scugog, 13 in LTCH
No deaths have been reported in Brock
